Royal Caribbean International will launch a fleetwide programme next month offering extra services to passengers in suites.

With more than 2,000 suites across its fleet, the cruise line claims to be one of the largest suite operators in the hospitality industry.

As part of the new suites programme, Royal Caribbean International is upgrading furnishings in all suite category staterooms. The installation of new furniture, flat-panel televisions and CD/DVDs will be completed by 2010.

Suite guests will be entitled to several privileges and upgraded amenities, along with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s ‘Gold Anchor Service’ from staff and crew.

Perks for passengers include dedicated security, where available, and check-in lines to speed the embarkation process, and SeaPass cards which entitle them to personalised service and offers.

Passengers also have free 24-hour room service and coffee and tea service throughout their cruise, and can dine in the privacy of their suite.

Those in the Grand Suite and higher category staterooms have extra privileges, including an invitation to a private cocktail reception hosted by the captain.

€22m upgrade for Costa Cruises ships

Carnival-owned Costa Cruises has spent €22m upgrading five of its ships, adding fuel-saving and eco-friendly features.
The Italian cruise line's flagship, Costa Serena, is the last of five ships to be dry-docked in Fincantieri’s Palermo shipyard for the environmental improvements and routine refurbishments.

New air-conditioning regulators have been installed which will increase efficiency and save fuel.

An ecological silicone-based coating has been applied to the hull to inhibit the growth of micro-organisms, which will improve the hydrodynamic performance of the ship and reduce environmental impacts.

Other improvements include new carpeting, curtains, upholstery and other items in public areas.

The cruise line has a fleet of 12 ships, and will take delivery of two new vessels – Costa Luminosa and Costa Pacifica – at the end of April and May 2009.

Three more new ships are on order, which will bring the fleet to 17 by 2012.
