MSC Cruises have announced a partnership with chef Roy Yamaguchi for their new ship MSC Seaside. Yamaguchi is the founder of Roy’s Restaurants and has won the prestigious James Beard Award for his stunning Pan-Asian cuisine. There seems to be little that this outstanding chef can’t do, with six seasons of television show, Hawaii Cooks with Roy Yamaguchi, and four cookery books to his name.
The new MSC Seaside restaurant will showcase the best of Roy Yamaguchi’s expertise, and the man himself will be personally involved with design of all aspects of the new restaurant. Having a say on everything from the recipes and menus to the music and chinaware, Yamaguchi’s restaurant will give passengers a true insight into his culinary genius.
Roy Yamaguchi said of the as-yet-unnamed restaurant: “I want to do something that’s cosmopolitan, contemporary, and fits in with the type of cooking that I do. It’s going to be a great partnership.”
The restaurant is expected to include a teppanyaki grill and a raw bar, offering the flavours of several Asian cultures. Mouth-watering dishes with influences from traditional Japanese, Malaysian and Korean cooking styles can all be expected.
This latest chef partnership reflects MSC Cruises’ aim to bring a range of international, high-end cuisine to all its guests, allowing them to discover flavours from all over the world. Gianni Onorato, MSC Cruises’ Chief Executive Officer, says of the partnerships: “Our heritage lies in the Mediterranean, where a passion for food is a way of life. The enjoyment of good food plays an integral role on holiday and enables our guests to discover new cultures and tastes whilst cruising on one of our beautiful ships.
“The four top chefs whom we currently work with were selected as leading global experts in their respective cuisines and each one brings world-class fine dining expertise, elevating the dining experience for our guests to a new level.”
The Swiss-based cruise line currently has partnerships with other award-winning chefs, such as Carlo Cracco, Jean-Phillippe Maury and Jereme Leung. Among the new dining options being developed for MSC Seaside are a luxury fish restaurant with chef’s table, and a world-class international steakhouse where the beef will be dry aged on the ship.
