What Type of Electrical Plug Will My Cruise Ship Cabin Have?

0

You’ve got your bags packed, crammed with all the clothes, sun cream and necessary electronics you need to make your holiday go swimmingly. You arrive on the boat, ready for a week or two of sun, cities and relaxation. There’s one snag though: the cabin doesn’t have the correct plug socket to charge everything up! Now your hair will go un-straightened, your laptop won’t have any juice and your phone will be on its last legs in no time!

Cruise lines vary in their design of plug socket, whether it’s a British one, a US two-pin or the European version; if you don’t research beforehand, it can be a bit of a lucky dip as to which one you’ll have in your cabin.

Whether it’s a phone charger, hair dryer, straighteners or a laptop power supply you bring with you, scoping out your cruise ship cabin’s plug sockets before you set sail is well worth looking into. Avoid disappointment with this handy guide to cruise lines and their respective plug types right here.

British socket

Featured on: P&O Cruises, Cunard Line

All cabins and staterooms onboard P&O Cruises and Cunard Line feature the traditional three-pin socket you’ll be used to using throughout your home, so there’s no need to pack any adapters.

Continental European socket

Featured on: Cunard Line, Celebrity Cruises, MSC Cruises, Fred Olsen Line, Holland America Line

As well as the UK plug sockets, Cunard Line features the Continental two-pin socket in its rooms too. The other cruise lines listed here don’t feature UK plug sockets, so it might be wise to bring adapters along with you.

US two-pin socket

Featured on: Cunard Line, Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Princess Cruises, MSC Cruises, Fred Olsen Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Disney, Carnival Cruises, Holland America Line

In addition to US sockets, Cunard Line, Celebrity Cruises, MSC Cruises and Fred Olsen Line also feature European sockets, so if you can’t track down US adapters, you’ll still be able to pack a European adapter to use during your cruise.
