In 2004, Norwegian Cruise Line named its newest cruise ship Pride of America in recognition of it being the first U.S. flagged passenger cruise ship for over half a century. With a build up like that, the ship needs to be impressive. Weighing in at 81,000 tonnes and spanning 921 feet in length, she is exactly that.



Pride of America – What to do



Her all-American crew caters for some 2,000 guests on the ship’s Hawaiian cruises. As you might expect, the attractions, bars and eateries are all very much geared to an American theme. That said, there are some NCL favourites present on board, such as a fitness centre, spa, and courts for basketball, volleyball and tennis. There is a golf driving range and deck games such as chess are a regular feature. The entertaining Gyrosphere is always sure to generate plenty of interest.
Bars such as the Gold Rush Saloon and John Adam’s Coffee Bar continue the American theme, while there is a nod to Pride of America’s Hawaiian route with the poolside Waikiki cocktail bar. Overlooking the pool, the Ocean Drive Bar is a relaxing place to spend an afternoon, while Napa Wine Bar offers a superb selection of quality wines. The Mardi Gras Cabaret Lounge and Nightclub is always a lively affair, and further cocktails can be found at Lanai Bar.



Pride of America – Where to eat



The American theme continues at the delightful Cadillac Diner, an authentic 1950’s American Diner, complete with traditional burgers, fish and chips and other favourites. Lazy J Texas Steakhouse offers exactly what its name suggests, while Little Italy attempts to recreate authentic Italian cuisine such as might be found in the New York area of the same name.
Authentic Asian food can be found at East Meets West and Pride of America’s Sushi Bar, while the Aloha Café offers an eclectic mix of tasty dishes enjoyed in a Hawaiian décor. Jefferson’s Bistro, whilst decorated in tribute to the former U.S. President Thomas Jefferson, does in fact serve French food. Pride of America’s two largest dining areas are found at Liberty Main Dining Room and Skyline Main Dining Room. Liberty is decorated in such a way as to give a flavour of American history to go along with the magnificent ocean views, while Skyline sets out to provide traditionally cooked meals in a setting that is just perfect for watching the sun go down.



The Staterooms of Pride of America



If you have booked something called the Grand Suite, you want something a little bit special. The baby grand piano found in each suite fits the bill nicely, and is a special touch to this fabulous accommodation, complete with private terrace and hot tub, four separate rooms, two televisions and king-size bed. It really is one of the best suites Norwegian Cruise Line has to offer.
The Owner’s Suite is much the same, aside from the piano, while the comfort and privacy found in the Penthouses or Family Suites really adds something to the whole NCL cruise experience. The Balcony and Oceanview Staterooms offer stunning views of the ocean, and for those on a budget the Inside Staterooms provide a comfortable, cosy environment in which to enjoy your holiday.
