Avalon Tranquility II is an Avalon Waterways river ship sailing Europe's most celebrated waterways. Here is what to know before you read further:
Sailings currently on sale depart from late September 2026, with itineraries of up to 15 nights crossing Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, Switzerland, Austria and Luxembourg.
Avalon Tranquility II offers two cabin grades, both designed for two guests and both making the most of river scenery.
The Royal Suite (Grade S) is the ship's most spacious accommodation, at 27.9 m² — space that makes a genuine difference over a two-week voyage. The extra floor area gives you room to spread out, and the balcony brings the passing riverbank directly into your day.
The Deluxe Outside Cabin (Grade D) is a well-considered twin-window stateroom of 16 m². Two windows run throughout the day, filling the cabin with natural light and keeping the river firmly in view whether you are dressing for dinner or simply resting between ports.
For a full breakdown of layouts and deck positions, see the Avalon Tranquility II cabins and deck plans.
Avalon Tranquility II concentrates on Central and Western Europe's great river corridors, with the majority of sailings on the Danube — the river that links Nuremberg, Vilshofen, Vienna and Budapest in a single continuous journey through some of the continent's most historic cities.
The ship also sails the Rhine, running between Basel in Switzerland and the Dutch coast, and ventures onto the Main, the Maas, the Moselle and the Benelux waterways. That variety means the ship can be found departing from Amsterdam on one itinerary and from Budapest or Frankfurt am Main on another, depending on the route.

Every cruise on Avalon Tranquility II is operated by Avalon Waterways, a dedicated river cruise line with itineraries across Europe and beyond. The cruise line page covers the full Avalon fleet and gives a broader sense of the style of sailing they offer — worth a look if you are weighing up which itinerary or departure date suits you best.
As one of the UK's leading cruise specialists, Cruise1st has genuine expertise in Avalon Waterways itineraries — this is not a general travel agent adding river cruises to a list. Every sailing on Avalon Tranquility II departs from a mainland European port, which means flying is part of the journey for every UK traveller. Rather than arranging flights, hotel nights and transfers separately, our team can put the entire trip together as a Cruise1st Package — the cruise is the middle of a longer trip, with outbound and return flights, any hotel nights either side, and all transfers booked as one holiday on a single invoice.
If you would rather talk it through before committing, our cruise experts are available by phone. They can walk you through cabin grades, help you weigh up a seven-night Danube round trip against a longer Rhine and Main combination, and make sure the fare inclusions match what matters to you.
Yes. Every sailing currently available on Avalon Tranquility II departs from a port in mainland Europe — Amsterdam, Budapest, Nuremberg, Basel, Vilshofen, Vienna, Frankfurt am Main or Remich. UK travellers will need to fly to the embarkation city. Cruise1st can include flights, pre- or post-cruise hotel nights and transfers in a single Cruise1st Package booking so nothing falls through the gaps.
The ship sails six river corridors: the Danube, the Main, the Rhine, the Maas, the Moselle and the Benelux waterways. The Danube accounts for the largest share of itineraries, linking cities such as Nuremberg, Vilshofen, Vienna and Budapest. Rhine sailings typically run between Basel and the Dutch waterways, often departing from or finishing in Amsterdam.
The longest itinerary currently on sale runs to 15 nights, giving you a genuine deep-dive into a river corridor rather than a highlights pass. Shorter sailings are also available for those with less time.
If space over a longer voyage is a priority, the Royal Suite at 27.9 m² offers noticeably more room than the Deluxe Outside Cabin at 16 m², along with a balcony. The Deluxe Outside Cabin's twin windows deliver strong natural light and river views throughout the day at a more accessible price point. Our experts can talk through which suits your trip length and travel style — call us before you book.
