Dining

Dining aboard Cunard Queen Mary 2 feels like stepping into a more glamorous age of ocean travel. Your complimentary restaurant is linked to your accommodation category, which gives the ship a wonderfully “liner” feel: elegant dining rooms, polished service, and evenings that invite you to linger over the final course.

Most guests dine in the grand Britannia Restaurant, where classic dishes and well-loved favourites are served with plenty of ceremony. For an extra-special night, speciality venues bring a more intimate atmosphere, perfect for celebrations or simply treating yourself. If you enjoy the ritual of afternoon tea, this is one ship where it really is an event: think white gloves, delicate sandwiches, and indulgent sweet bites served with proper care.

Entertainment & Things to Do

Queen Mary 2 is all about classic pleasures, with a few standout experiences that you won’t find everywhere. The onboard planetarium is a favourite for stargazers and curious minds, while the theatre hosts polished productions, guest performers, and talks that suit an audience who enjoys something a little more refined.

Daytime can be as relaxed or as full as you like. Browse the library for a quiet hour with a sea view, join a class, enjoy an unhurried coffee, or try your luck in the casino when you fancy a bit of sparkle. If wellness is on your holiday wish list, the spa and salon are a lovely way to spend a sea day, especially after a brisk walk on deck with the wind in your hair.

Evenings are made for dressing up, heading to a show, then finishing the night with live music and a cocktail. It’s not a ship that shouts for attention; it’s a ship that rewards those who enjoy the finer details.

Family

While Queen Mary 2 is best known for its grown-up elegance, families do sail on her, particularly during school holiday periods. The ship’s atmosphere tends to be calmer and more traditional than a resort-style cruise, so it’s a great match for families who like a slower pace, shared experiences, and a touch of sophistication.

Think days spent exploring ports together, enjoying the planetarium, taking a dip, and dressing up for dinner. If you’re travelling with teens who appreciate a more “classic” holiday feel, the ship can be a real treat. For younger children who want non-stop slides and splash zones, a different style of ship might suit better.

If you’d like help choosing the best sailing for your party, Cruise1st can point you towards itineraries and cabin layouts that make family travel feel easy.

Cabin Types

Accommodation on Queen Mary 2 ranges from comfortable staterooms to some genuinely impressive suite options. You’ll find choices for couples, friends travelling together, and solo cruisers, plus options that suit longer voyages where storage, space, and little comforts really matter.

If you’re comparing Queen Mary 2 cabins, a helpful starting point is deciding what you want from your cabin time: is it simply a place to sleep after busy port days, or do you want a balcony for sea air and sunrise coffees? The ship also has a notable number of single cabins for solo travellers, which is one of the reasons she remains popular for those sailing independently.

Ideal For

Cunard Queen Mary 2 is ideal for travellers who love tradition, thoughtful service, and the romance of ocean travel. It suits:

  • Couples who want a classic, dress-up-and-dine kind of holiday.
  • Solo travellers looking for a refined onboard atmosphere and dedicated cabin options.
  • Cruisers who enjoy enrichment, from guest speakers to the planetarium and library time.
  • Milestone trips, where the ship itself feels like part of the celebration.

You’ll also find she’s a favourite for those who love sea days. The journey matters as much as the destinations, and Queen Mary 2 does “at sea” brilliantly.

Destinations

Queen Mary 2 has a wonderful mix of itineraries, from shorter breaks to epic voyages that feel like the adventure of a lifetime. Southampton is a key departure point for UK travellers, and transatlantic routes are a signature for this iconic liner, particularly for guests who love the idea of crossing the ocean in proper style.

Depending on the season, you may also find sailings that explore Northern Europe, classic city routes, and longer journeys that stitch together multiple regions. If your dream is a longer holiday where you unpack once and wake up somewhere new, this ship is made for it.

Special Cunard Queen Mary 2 Offerings

Queen Mary 2 stands out for experiences that feel distinctly Cunard. You’ll notice it in the formal evenings, the classic lounge culture, and the way the ship encourages you to slow down and enjoy the voyage.

Advantages

Food excellent. Staff excellent- no trying to sell you drinks every five minutes and very smartly dressed. Very polite and unobtrusive. Service in restaurant was perfect- intervals between courses just right

Weak Points

Ship could do with more signage on each deck to let you know where various events take place. A bit of a rabbit warren in places and easy to get lost
