AmaSintra at a Glance

AmaSintra entered service in 2023 as one of AmaWaterways' newest river ships, purpose-built for the Douro in Portugal. She carries up to 104 guests looked after by a crew of 42 — a ratio that underpins the attentive, personal service AmaWaterways is known for. At 79.2 metres in length, she is sized to navigate the Douro intimately, with 52 cabins across three grades.

Cabins and Suites on AmaSintra

AmaSintra offers three cabin grades, each designed to make the most of river views in a compact, well-appointed space. Full layouts and deck-by-deck positions are on the AmaSintra cabins and deck plans page.

Suite S

The Suite S is the most spacious accommodation on board at 30 m², sleeping up to four guests. A private balcony and 10 m² more living space than any balcony cabin make this the cabin for those who want room to spread out and linger over Douro views.

Balcony Cabin A

At 20 m², Balcony Cabin A is the largest balcony cabin on the ship, sleeping two. Its private balcony brings the river directly to you, and the extra floor space sets it apart from the other balcony and outside-view grades.

Outside Cabin D

Outside Cabin D offers a panoramic outside-view window at 15 m², sleeping two. Positioned on the lowest passenger deck, it delivers natural light and elevated river views without the balcony premium — a practical choice for guests who spend most of their time on deck.

Dining on AmaSintra

Both main dining venues are included in your cruise fare, so there are no supplementary bills to worry about at the table.

The Main Restaurant is the culinary heart of the ship — an elegant, open-seating space serving regional cuisine with river views. Open seating means you dine when it suits you and sit where you choose, making it easy to fall into conversation with fellow guests.

The Chef's Table offers something more theatrical: a dedicated chef prepares a multi-course tasting menu in an intimate setting, in full view of the guests. It is personalised, unhurried and included in your fare — culinary theatre without a surcharge.

For drinks, the Specialty Coffee & Tea Station is self-service and complimentary throughout the day, from your first morning espresso to an afternoon tea before port.

Bars, Lounges and Social Spaces

The Main Lounge is where the ship comes together in the evenings. Cocktails at the fully stocked bar, talks about the day's ports of call, and live entertainment make it the natural social anchor of the ship. Entry is free; individual drinks and food are charged unless covered by a beverage package.

Sun Deck, Pool and Outdoor Life

AmaSintra's Sun Deck gives guests unobstructed, open-air views as the ship moves through the Douro Valley — the kind of panorama that makes a river cruise different from any other. The Heated Sun-Deck Pool sits up here too, with an integrated swim-up bar so you can order a drink without stepping out of the water. Both are included in your fare.

Guests who want to stay active will find a Walking Track on the Sun Deck and a Fitness Centre below with modern cardio and strength-training equipment — both complimentary. Specialist fitness classes carry a separate charge.

One of the more distinctive touches is the Complimentary Bicycle Fleet: bikes available to all guests, free of charge, for exploring ports and riverside paths at your own pace without needing to join a guided excursion.

Wellness and Relaxation

The Massage & Hair Salon offers a quiet retreat on board; access is free but individual treatments and hairdressing services carry their own charge. When you want something quieter still, the Library provides books, games and a relaxed refuge away from the activity on deck — included in your fare.

Shopping on Board

The Gift Shop carries essentials, souvenirs and regional keepsakes. Browsing costs nothing; purchases are at your discretion.

Common Questions About AmaSintra

Which Cabin Grade Offers the Best Value on AmaSintra?

It depends on how you use the ship. Outside Cabin D at 15 m² suits guests who spend most of their time on deck or ashore and want a comfortable, well-lit cabin at a lower price point. Balcony Cabin A at 20 m² is the right step up if you want your own outdoor space for early-morning river watching. Suite S at 30 m² makes sense for guests travelling as a group of up to four or those who simply want the most room on board.

Do All AmaSintra Sailings Depart from Porto?

Yes — every sailing currently on sale with Cruise1st departs from Porto, Portugal. Because that means flying from the UK, we can package your flights, hotel nights either side and airport transfers together with the cruise so there is nothing to arrange separately.

What Is Included in the Cruise Fare on AmaSintra?

The Main Restaurant and The Chef's Table are both included, as are the Specialty Coffee & Tea Station, the Heated Sun-Deck Pool, the Fitness Centre, the Walking Track, the Sun Deck, the Library and the Complimentary Bicycle Fleet. Individual spa treatments, hairdressing, specialist fitness classes and drinks not covered by a beverage package are charged separately.

How Many Guests Are on Board AmaSintra?

AmaSintra accommodates up to 104 guests, served by a crew of 42. That crew-to-guest ratio supports the attentive, personal service associated with the AmaWaterways style of river cruising.

Can I Explore Ports Independently on AmaSintra?

Yes. The complimentary bicycle fleet is one of the most practical ways to do this — bikes are available to all guests at no charge, letting you explore riverside towns and paths at your own pace without joining a guided tour.
