Built in 2024, AmaSofia carries up to 152 guests and 51 crew members along 135 metres of hull — a scale that keeps the experience genuinely intimate. She sails for AmaWaterways, the dedicated river cruise line, and the sailings available through Cruise1st take her along the Rhine, the Danube, the Ijssel, the Benelux waterways, the Main and the Waal. Departure ports include Amsterdam and Basel, as well as Budapest and Nuremberg — all requiring a flight from the UK, which Cruise1st can arrange as part of a complete package.
AmaSofia offers two distinct dining venues, both included in your cruise fare and open to all guests. The Main Restaurant is the culinary heart of the ship — open seating times mean you dine when it suits you, with regional cuisine served alongside river views and an atmosphere that encourages relaxed conversation. For something more theatrical, The Chef's Table seats guests around an intimate setting where a dedicated chef crafts a multi-course tasting menu live in front of you, with personalised attention and no additional charge. Complimentary speciality coffees and teas are available throughout the day from the Specialty Coffee & Tea Station, self-service and open to all.
The Main Lounge is where the ship's social life happens: cocktails at the bar, port talks from the destination team, and live entertainment in the evenings. The lounge itself is included in your fare; drinks are charged separately unless you hold a beverage package. Up on the open Sun Deck, the unobstructed views are the attraction — whether you're watching a medieval town slip by or simply taking the air. The Heated Sun-Deck Pool comes with a swim-up bar, bringing resort comfort to the upper deck, while the Walking Track alongside it lets you keep up a morning jog with scenery most runners could only dream of.
Guests who want to explore independently will appreciate the Complimentary Bicycle Fleet — bikes available to all guests for self-guided rides ashore at no extra charge. The Fitness Center carries modern cardio and strength equipment, free to use at any time (specialist classes carry a charge). After exercise, the Massage & Hair Salon is there for relaxation, with treatments charged separately. The Library provides a quieter retreat with books and games, and the Gift Shop rounds out the on-board offering with souvenirs and essentials.
AmaSofia's 76 cabins span three grades, and the full layout is detailed on the AmaSofia cabins and deck plans page. Here is what the grades offer:
All cabins sleep two guests. When you call Cruise1st, our cruise experts can walk you through which grade suits your plans and budget before you commit.
The itineraries available through Cruise1st run across six European river systems. The Rhine accounts for the largest share of sailings, with routes frequently departing from Amsterdam and ending in Basel (or vice versa), tracing a route through some of central Europe's most celebrated riverside towns and wine regions. Danube cruises depart from Budapest or Vilshofen and open up a different landscape entirely — castle-crowned hills, vineyard terraces and historic Central European cities. Shorter itineraries also explore the Ijssel, the Benelux waterways and the Waal, all well suited to guests who want a taste of river cruising without committing to a longer voyage. Sailings run up to 14 nights.
Because every departure is outside the UK, all sailings require a flight. Cruise1st can build the entire trip — flights, pre- or post-cruise hotel nights, and transfers — into a single Cruise1st Package, so there is nothing to piece together yourself.
Cruise1st is one of the UK's leading cruise specialists, which means the team selling AmaWaterways holidays knows the line in depth — not the broad generalist knowledge of a high-street travel agent, but the specific understanding of how the fleet, the itineraries and the cabin grades work in practice. Expert advice is available on the phone before you book, so if you are unsure whether the Rhine or the Danube suits you better, or whether the Suite SS is worth the step up, someone who has done this before can help you decide.
Every AmaSofia sailing departs from continental Europe, which means the cruise is the middle of a longer trip. Cruise1st handles the flights, the hotel either side and the transfers as one holiday — the whole package on a single booking, straightforward to manage from deposit to return.
Browse all available Rhine river cruises, Danube river cruises or the full AmaWaterways programme to find the sailing that fits. Prices start from £2,723pp* for departures from September 2026, with 21 of the 25 current sailings carrying a discount.
If you are weighing up which AmaWaterways ship to sail on, Cruise1st also features AmaMagna, Zambezi Queen, AmaVenita, AmaVerde, AmaLea and AmaDahlia — each a different ship in the same fleet, and each worth considering depending on your chosen itinerary and travel dates.
AmaSofia was built in 2024, making her one of the most recently launched ships in the AmaWaterways fleet. She was purpose-designed for European river cruising from the outset.
AmaSofia accommodates up to 152 guests across 76 cabins, with a crew of 51. The ratio keeps service attentive and the atmosphere closer to a private charter than a large ocean liner.
Both the Main Restaurant and The Chef's Table are included in your cruise fare, as is the Specialty Coffee & Tea Station. There is no surcharge to dine at The Chef's Table. Alcoholic drinks may be covered depending on your fare or any beverage package you hold — our experts can confirm exactly what is included when you call.
That depends on how much time you expect to spend in your cabin and what your budget allows. The Suite SS at 32.5 m² is the most generous space aboard and suits guests who want to use the cabin as a genuine retreat. The Balcony Cabin AA at 21.8 m² offers a well-proportioned room with balcony access at a lower price point. The Outside Cabin D at 14.9 m² is the most compact but still delivers natural daylight and river views throughout the day. The cabins and deck plans page shows exactly where each grade sits on the ship.
Yes — every AmaSofia sailing departs from continental Europe, so a flight is required from the UK. Cruise1st can arrange flights, pre- and post-cruise hotel nights and transfers as a single Cruise1st Package, putting the entire trip on one booking so nothing falls through the gaps.
