AmaDouro at a Glance

Built in 2019 and sailing for AmaWaterways, AmaDouro is an intimate river ship carrying up to 102 guests and crewed by 42. With 52 cabins spread across her 79.2-metre hull, the guest-to-crew ratio keeps service personal throughout. She sails exclusively on the Douro river in Portugal, departing from Porto — one of Europe’s most atmospheric embarkation points — and winding inland through the Douro Valley’s terraced vineyards and whitewashed quintas.

  • Hull length: 79.2 metres
  • Home waters: Douro River, Portugal
  • Known for: intimate scale, a heated sun-deck pool with swim-up bar, and a complimentary bicycle fleet for independent shore exploration

Dining on AmaDouro

AmaDouro offers two distinct included dining venues, so you eat well every night without opening your wallet at the table.

The Main Restaurant is the culinary heart of the ship: open seating means you choose your own time and company, menus draw on regional Portuguese cuisine, and river views accompany every meal — all within your cruise fare. For something more theatrical, The Chef’s Table seats guests around a dedicated chef who crafts a multi-course tasting menu in full view, an intimate experience that costs nothing beyond the fare you have already paid.

Between meals, the Specialty Coffee & Tea Station keeps complimentary speciality coffees and teas on hand throughout the day on a self-service basis.

On-Board Life

AmaDouro packs a considered range of spaces into her 79.2-metre hull. The Main Lounge is the social centre — cocktails at the bar, port-talk presentations from the destination team, and live entertainment in the evening. The lounge is open to all; drinks are charged separately unless covered by a beverage package.

Up on the Sun Deck you have unobstructed open-air views from the upper deck, plus a Heated Sun-Deck Pool with an integrated swim-up bar — a genuinely rare feature on a river ship. A Walking Track circles the same deck for guests who want to keep moving, and a Fitness Centre with cardio and strength equipment is available to all guests at no charge, though specialist fitness classes carry a separate fee.

Quieter moments are well served too. The Library offers books and games in a calm setting, the Massage & Hair Salon is on hand for treatments at an additional charge, and a Gift Shop stocks souvenirs and regional keepsakes. One feature that stands out at port: a Complimentary Bicycle Fleet, so any guest can pick up a bike and explore the Douro Valley towns independently, without booking or paying for a guided excursion.

Cabins on AmaDouro

All 52 cabins sleep two and span three grades — find the full layouts on the AmaDouro cabins and deck plans page.

  • Outside Stateroom D (15 m²): A panoramic window fills the cabin with river light throughout the day. No balcony, but the view is continuous and the cost is the most accessible entry point on board.
  • Balcony Stateroom A (20 m²): Five square metres more floor space than the outside grade — noticeably more room to move around and store luggage — plus a private balcony to step out onto as the Douro scenery passes.
  • Suite S (30 m²): The most generous space on the ship. At 30 m², the Suite offers approximately 10 m² more than the standard balcony staterooms, giving guests real room to relax and unpack fully for the week.

Where AmaDouro Sails

Every sailing currently on sale departs from Porto and explores Portugal’s Douro Valley. Porto itself rewards an early arrival — its medieval Ribeira district, port-wine lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia and the Livraria Lello bookshop are all within walking distance of the cruise terminal. Sailings run up to seven nights, giving the ship time to travel deep into the valley to towns such as Régua and Pinhão, the heart of Portugal’s port-wine country.

Because every sailing currently available requires a flight to Portugal, this is naturally the centrepiece of a longer trip. Cruise1st can book your flights, pre- or post-cruise hotel nights in Porto, and your transfers to and from the ship as a single Cruise1st Package — one booking, one point of contact.

Why Book AmaDouro with Cruise1st

Cruise1st is one of the UK’s leading cruise specialists, which means the team knows AmaWaterways intimately — not as a sideline to package holidays, but as a core part of what we sell. Before you book, real cruise experts are on the phone to talk through which cabin grade suits your priorities, which itinerary matches how much of the Douro you want to see, and what fare inclusions make sense for you. Everything goes on a single booking, so nothing falls through the gap between the cruise and the journey to reach it.

Common Questions About AmaDouro

Is Food and Drink Included on AmaDouro?

Breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Main Restaurant and multi-course dinners at The Chef’s Table are all included in your cruise fare, as are complimentary speciality coffees and teas throughout the day. Alcoholic drinks in the Main Lounge are charged separately unless your booking includes a beverage package — your Cruise1st advisor can confirm what a specific fare covers.

Can I Explore Ports Independently on AmaDouro?

Yes. AmaDouro carries a complimentary bicycle fleet that any guest can use ashore, making it straightforward to explore Douro Valley towns at your own pace without paying for a guided excursion. For guests who prefer a structured tour, AmaWaterways also organises shore excursions at the ports of call.

Which Cabin Grade Should I Book?

The Outside Stateroom D at 15 m² offers full river views through a panoramic window and is the most affordable way on board. Step up to the Balcony Stateroom A (20 m²) if a private balcony and extra floor space matter to you for a seven-night sailing. The Suite S at 30 m² is the right choice if you want the most space on the ship and plan to treat the week as a genuine retreat. The full layouts are on the AmaDouro cabins and deck plans page.

Do I Need to Fly to Join AmaDouro?

All sailings currently on sale depart from Porto, Portugal, so yes — you will need to fly. Cruise1st can arrange the flights, any hotel nights you want in Porto before or after the cruise, and your transfers, packaging everything into one straightforward booking so the cruise sits at the centre of a complete holiday.

Are There Other AmaWaterways Ships I Should Consider?

If you are weighing your options within the AmaWaterways fleet, several other ships are available: AmaMagna, Zambezi Queen, AmaVerde, AmaVenita, AmaDahlia and AmaLea are all other ships in the fleet you may be choosing between. A Cruise1st advisor can help you match the right ship to your preferred destination and travel dates.
