AmaReina at a Glance

AmaReina is an AmaWaterways river ship launched in 2014, built to carry 162 guests along the Danube with a crew of 51. At 135 metres in length she fits the classic European river profile — intimate enough that fellow guests quickly become familiar faces, yet fully equipped with the venues you’d expect from a premium river cruise. Her 81 cabins split across three grades, she sails itineraries of up to seven nights, and every sailing currently on sale departs from ports in Germany or Hungary.

All 14 current sailings operate on the Danube, departing from Budapest in Hungary, Vilshofen in Germany, or Nuremberg in Germany. Itineraries run to a maximum of seven nights, making AmaReina a practical choice for a first river cruise or a well-paced return to Central Europe.

Dining on AmaReina

AmaReina offers two distinct dining venues, both included in your cruise fare and open to every guest.

The Main Restaurant is the culinary heart of the ship, serving regional cuisine with open seating times and river views throughout. The relaxed, informal atmosphere encourages guests to mix freely at mealtimes rather than follow a fixed-table arrangement.

For something more theatrical, The Chef’s Table seats a smaller group while a dedicated chef prepares a multi-course tasting menu in front of you. The intimate setting and personalised attention make it a highlight for guests who enjoy food as an experience in itself — and, like the Main Restaurant, it carries no additional charge.

Beyond the dining rooms, a Specialty Coffee & Tea Station is available on a self-service basis throughout the day, included in your fare, so you’re never far from a decent cup.

On-Board Venues and Activities

The Main Lounge is where the ship’s social life happens — cocktails at the fully stocked bar, port talks from the expedition team, and live entertainment in the evenings. Entry is free; drinks are charged separately unless covered by a beverage package.

Up on the Sun Deck, a Heated Sun-Deck Pool with an integrated swim-up bar is one of AmaReina’s most distinctive features for a river ship of her scale. The pool is included in your fare, and the walk-on-water bar makes it easy to stay refreshed without leaving the water. The Sun Deck also carries a Walking Track for guests who like to start the morning with a circuit or two of fresh Danube air.

Those who prefer structured fitness will find a Fitness Centre with modern cardio and strength equipment — complimentary to use, with specialist classes available at an extra charge. Wind down afterwards at the Massage & Hair Salon, where treatments are charged separately. The Library offers a quieter escape with books and games, and a Gift Shop carries souvenirs and essentials.

One of the most practical on-board perks is the Complimentary Bicycle Fleet. Guests can borrow a bike at no charge to explore the ports independently — a genuinely useful way to cover ground in historic river towns without waiting for a guided tour.

Cabins and Suites on AmaReina

AmaReina carries three cabin grades, each sleeping two guests. Full deck plans and every cabin category are laid out on the AmaReina cabins and deck plans page.

The Outside Stateroom D, at 14.9 m², is the entry-level option — a river-view window brings in natural light and waterway scenery without the premium that comes with a balcony.

The Balcony Stateroom AA+ steps up to 26.9 m² and is the largest balcony stateroom available on the ship. The additional space makes a real difference on a seven-night sailing where you’ll spend time in the cabin between ports.

At the top of the range, the Suite SS is 27.9 m² and offers something genuinely uncommon on a river vessel: both a French balcony — the full-height sliding doors that open to the river at deck level — and a dedicated outside balcony with a separate sitting area. Guests who want the option to sit outside in the open air will find it the most versatile choice on the ship.

Booking AmaReina with Cruise1st

Every AmaReina sailing currently on sale departs from Germany or Hungary, so the cruise itself is the centrepiece of a longer trip abroad. As one of the UK’s leading cruise specialists, Cruise1st can book the flights, any hotel nights either side and all transfers as a single Cruise1st Package — one booking, one point of contact. Our cruise experts are available by phone before you book, whether you want to talk through cabin grades, itinerary options or what the Danube is like at a particular time of year. We help you match the cabin grade and fare inclusions to your circumstances, rather than leaving you to work it out alone.

Sailings start from £2,007pp*. There are currently 14 departures available, all operating on the Danube and departing from Budapest, Vilshofen or Nuremberg.

Common Questions About AmaReina

Which Cabin Grade Is Best for a First River Cruise?

The Outside Stateroom D at 14.9 m² is a well-proportioned starting point — you get a river-view window and a comfortable base without paying the balcony premium. If you already know you like spending time on the balcony, the Balcony Stateroom AA+ at 26.9 m² is the most spacious balcony option on the ship. Our experts can talk through the trade-offs with you before you book.

Is Dining Included in the Cruise Fare?

Both the Main Restaurant and The Chef’s Table are included in your AmaReina cruise fare, as is the Specialty Coffee & Tea Station. Drinks in the Main Lounge are charged separately unless you have taken a beverage package, and spa treatments at the Massage & Hair Salon carry their own charge.

Can I Explore Ports Independently?

Yes. AmaReina carries a complimentary bicycle fleet available to all guests, so you can set off at your own pace rather than joining a guided tour. It is one of the more practical ways to explore compact Danube towns without additional expense.

What Are the Departure Ports for AmaReina Sailings?

Current sailings depart from three ports: Budapest in Hungary, and Vilshofen and Nuremberg in Germany. The majority of departures originate in Budapest or Vilshofen. Because all ports are overseas, all AmaReina holidays involve flying — Cruise1st can arrange flights, transfers and hotel stays either side as part of a single package.

Are There Other AmaWaterways Ships to Consider?

If you are deciding between vessels in the fleet, Cruise1st also features AmaMagna, Zambezi Queen, AmaVerde, AmaVenita, AmaDahlia and AmaLea — each a different ship in the AmaWaterways fleet. You can see everything AmaWaterways operates through Cruise1st on the AmaWaterways cruise line page.
