Where Do Canary Islands Cruises Go in 2028?

The Canary Islands sit at the heart of this page, and that is where the bulk of 2028 departures are focused. Sailings range from short breaks of 4 nights to extended voyages of more than 170 nights, with a median of around 14 nights — a fortnight in the sun is the shape most people are booking. Importantly, more sailings are one-way than round-trip, so a flight home is part of the picture for many itineraries; where that applies to you, we can book the return leg, the hotel either side and the transfers as part of the same holiday.

Which Regions Do These Sailings Cover?

The Canary Islands dominate the offer, as you would expect. Beyond that, a substantial share of sailings are transatlantic crossings — some use the islands as a staging post between Europe and the Americas. The Western Mediterranean is well represented too, connecting the islands with ports along the Spanish, French and Italian coasts. You will also find sailings touching Portugal and the broader Mediterranean, a good range of Caribbean itineraries, and a handful of world cruise departures that pass through the region on their way around the globe. A small number of sailings reach as far as Africa.

Southern Europe and the Mediterranean

For those who want sun paired with culture, sailings combining the Canary Islands with the Western Mediterranean are a strong choice. Ports such as Lisbon, Rome (Civitavecchia) and Barcelona feature regularly as embarkation or disembarkation points. Genoa and Valletta also appear among the ports these itineraries use.

Transatlantic and Further Afield

The transatlantic sailings are one of the genuine draws here. Many cross between the Canary Islands and the Americas, finishing in Florida or Brazil — Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades) and Rio de Janeiro both appear as disembarkation ports. Fort Lauderdale and Miami are about half an hour apart, so a Florida arrival opens up both cities; it is worth checking both options. For the Southern Caribbean, Buenos Aires and beyond, these longer sailings suit anyone who wants the cruise to be the main event of the year.

Which Cruise Lines Sail the Canary Islands in 2028?

Six major lines are represented, each with a different character:

  • P&O Cruises — the largest UK fleet, sailing from Southampton with no flight required on selected departures.
  • Costa Cruises — Italian-style cruising with strong all-inclusive fare options and Mediterranean flair.
  • MSC Cruises — broad availability and a wide range of ship sizes, from classic to modern mega-ships.
  • Princess Cruises — a versatile fleet with a strong transatlantic and longer-voyage programme.
  • Holland America Line — known for longer itineraries and a more refined, unhurried pace on board.
  • Cunard — classic ocean liner elegance, with multiple fare tiers including flexible booking options and saver rates for those happy to travel on allocated cabins.

Where Do These Sailings Leave From?

Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are the most common embarkation points — if you are flying out to start your cruise, these are the airports to plan around. Southampton is the main UK departure port, particularly for P&O Cruises; most of Britain can reach Southampton by road or rail, so around one in six sailings genuinely requires no flight at all. Lisbon and Barcelona are also regular starting points for itineraries heading south or west.

The Ships Sailing in 2028

Costa Smeralda

Costa Smeralda carries the world's first Frescobaldi wine restaurant at sea — Osteria Frescobaldi, a partnership exclusive to this ship. The Solemio Spa covers 4,500 m² and includes a rare snow grotto, while the Colosseo Theatre spans 3 decks for evening shows. A Food Lab cookery school rounds out a genuinely distinctive onboard offer. Explore Costa Smeralda's cabins and deck plans.

  • Inside cabin I1 — from 10 m², sleeping up to 4 guests; the most affordable option on the lower decks, ideal if you spend your days exploring the ship and ashore.
  • Ocean-view cabin E1 — 17 m², sleeping up to 4; a fixed sea-view window brings in natural light without the extra outlay of a balcony.
  • Balcony cabin B1 — 14 m², sleeping up to 4; positioned exclusively on deck 5, a lower and more stable position.
  • Grand Suite GS — 33 m², sleeping up to 4; significantly more space than standard suites, with a full balcony.

Azura — P&O Cruises

Azura was refreshed bow to stern in 2025 — new restaurants, bars, cabin décor and corridor carpets throughout. Specialty dining includes Sindhu for modern Indian cuisine and the Glass House, curated by TV wine expert Olly Smith. The 800-seat Playhouse theatre delivers West End-quality aerial acrobatics and shows, and the SeaScreen open-air cinema on deck adds a different kind of evening altogether. Azura's Southampton departures mean you can board without a flight for selected sailings.

  • Larger Inside Cabin OB — 15 m², sleeping 2; exclusively on Riviera Deck, with easy access to the ship's facilities.
  • Sea View Cabin LB — 15 m², sleeping 2; the same footprint as the inside cabin, with a sea outlook.
  • Superior Deluxe Balcony Cabin DA — 29 m², sleeping 2; private outdoor space for sea air and open views.
  • Penthouse Suite A1 — 69 m², sleeping 2; the largest suite on board, with a full separate lounge area.

Nieuw Statendam — Holland America Line

Nieuw Statendam is the flagship of Holland America's Pinnacle class, and a few details set it apart from the crowd. A dramatic 2-storey Wine Tower anchors the main dining room, and the Tamarind pan-Asian restaurant — with its 7-seat integrated sushi bar — has been a signature HAL dining venue since 2008. Music Walk hosts 3 distinct live music clubs: Lincoln Center Stage, B.B. King's Blues Club, and Billboard Onboard, all included in the fare. See Nieuw Statendam's cabins and deck plans.

  • Inside cabin I — from 13 m², sleeping up to 3; the most affordable grade on board.
  • Family outside cabin FA — 20.6 m², sleeping up to 5; 2 separate bathrooms, one with a bath, ideal for families.
  • Spa Balcony cabin VQ — 21.2 m², sleeping up to 3; private balcony with direct access to sea air.
  • Signature Suite SS — 36 m², sleeping up to 3; centrally located on deck 7 with good lift access.
  • Pinnacle Suite with hot tub — 120 m², sleeping up to 4; the only Pinnacle Suite on board, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a private whirlpool.

More Ships on These Sailings

Majestic Princess sails for Princess Cruises on transatlantic and longer itineraries, with Coral Princess also in the Princess fleet on these routes — her slim 91,627-GT beam lets her call at narrower waterways and smaller island ports that larger ships cannot reach, and her Universe Lounge features 3 revolving stages. View Coral Princess cabins and deck plans. Costa Serena brings a 6,000 m² Samsara Spa and the Fiorentina Steak House — the only Costa ship with this Florentine steakhouse concept. Explore Costa Serena's cabins and deck plans. From MSC, MSC Divina is one of the more distinctive ships at sea: christened by Sophia Loren, she carries a Swarovski crystal staircase, a De Jorio-designed Piazza, and a stern Infinity Pool that dissolves into the ocean horizon. See MSC Divina's cabins and deck plans. MSC Virtuosa and MSC Musica also feature; MSC Virtuosa cabin and deck plans and MSC Musica cabin and deck plans are available to browse.

What Do the Fares Include?

Costa Cruises offers several fare tiers. The All Inclusive tier covers full board and unlimited premium drinks with the My Drinks Plus package. The Comfort Plus tier adds 24-hour room service. Flash and Last Minute fares cover full board and entertainment at a lower price point, with drinks available to add on separately.

Princess Cruises offers a Standard base fare alongside the Princess Plus package, which adds 4 casual dining meals per voyage, beverages up to $15 each (with a daily limit of 15 drinks), MedallionNet Max Wi-Fi, pre-paid crew appreciation, unlimited digital photographs plus 3 prints, and reserved theatre seating. Fare types such as last-minute offers also appear in the Princess programme.

Cunard fare options include the flexible Cunard Fare — which allows stateroom choice, priority for upgrades, a 15% deposit, and complimentary shuttle buses at ports — and Saver fares for those happy to take a pre-allocated stateroom at a lower cost, paying in full on booking.

Are There Discounts on 2028 Canary Islands Cruises?

A good number of sailings are reduced from their previously listed cabin price. The maximum reduction across the range reaches up to 29% on a small number of departures — 2 sailings carry that level of saving — while the typical discount across reduced sailings runs at around 10%. It is worth checking individual departure dates, as savings vary considerably from one sailing to the next.

Make It a Holiday

For most of these itineraries, a flight is part of the journey — either to reach the embarkation port or to get home after a one-way sailing. Cruise1st can take care of that as part of a single booking: flights, hotels before or after the cruise, tours, transfers and insurance all go on one holiday rather than leaving you to piece it together. Talk to our team about what you need and we will build it around your cruise.

If you are sailing from Southampton, most of the UK can get there by road or rail — no airport, no check-in queue, just drive or take the train and walk on board.

Other 2028 Sailings to Consider

If you are keeping your options open for 2028, Mediterranean cruises in 2028 make a natural companion search — many of the same ships and lines appear. Princess Cruises' full 2028 programme covers a wide range of regions including the Canary Islands and transatlantic routes, and Princess Japan and South-East Asia 2027–2028 is worth a look if you are weighing up a longer voyage. P&O's 2028 programme covers the islands and Southampton departures in detail. For Christmas 2028 cruises, Canary Islands sailings are among the most popular choices. If you are thinking about the year ahead, all 2028 cruises give you the full picture, or browse 2028 sailings from Southampton if that port works best for you.

Considering the year before? 2027 cruises from Southampton are booking well, as are Mediterranean cruises for 2027 and world cruises from Southampton in 2027.

Where a discount is shown, it is a reduction from the price previously listed for that cabin grade on that sailing, not a comparison between cabin grades or against a brochure rate. Discounts and prices shown are not kept up to date: the reduction available now may be smaller, or may have ended, and prices may have changed.
