Your Inca adventure starts here...
Day 1 - LIMA
Welcome to Lima, the 'City of Kings'. Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and privately escorted to your hotel.
Day 2 - CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY – CUSCO (B,L)
This morning you will be picked up from your hotel for your tour to the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, a most remarkable Inca building and then continue to the Pisaq market in the Sacred Valley. Originally a place where people from remote communities used to barter their products, Pisaq has evolved to one of South America's most famous souvenir markets. Make sure to sample some 'empanadas' baked in traditional clay ovens.
Buffet lunch at local restaurant in the Sacred Valley.
Afternoon visit to the fortress of Ollantaytambo where the Temple of the Sun (formed of six gigantic monoliths, whose total weight exceeds 50 tons) and the Terrace of the Ten Niches stand out. Return to Cusco.
Day 3 - CUSCO – MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO (B,L)
Early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Cusco and escorted to Ollantaytambo train station for your next railroad journey to Aguas Calientes (Approximately 1 hours and 45 minutes ride).
The VISTADOME train ride takes you through the Sacred Valley of the Incas up to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival a small coach takes you up the steep roads to the entrance of the citadel. For centuries Machu Picchu remained undiscovered by the Spaniards and has only been found in 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham. During a guided tour you will experience the uniqueness of the location and the genius that went into its construction, making this Inca site one of the seven new wonders of the world (approximate duration of the guided excursion: 02 ½ hours).
Buffet lunch in the restaurant Tinkuy of ‘Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge’ (the only hotel located right next to the Machu Picchu Inca citadel). Depending on the time of arrival in Machu Picchu the restaurant’s location allows re-entering the citadel without paying a second entrance fee.
Later in the afternoon, you return by VISTADOME train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo and transfer back to your hotel in Cusco.
Day 4 - CUSCO - PUNO (B,L)
You will be transferred to the bus terminal.
06:50 Your tourist coach journey takes you through picturesque Andean landscapes dotted by small villages and herds of llamas and vicunas. Your final destination is Puno, however you make three important stops along your way: the first one is Andahuaylillas known by its baroque church dating from the 17th century. Your bus will climb to La Raya Pass (4,335 m/ 14,172 ft) to enjoy a panoramic view of the snow-capped Andes. Then your tour continues to Raqchi to visit the Viracocha Temple. This was the only Inca temple featuring cylindrical columns covered by fine clay layers. Lunch will be served in a typical restaurant in Sicuani.
17:20 Arrival in Puno
Reception and transfer to the hotel in Puno.
Day 5 - LAKE TITICACA FROM PUNO (B,L)
Unlike the classic tour, this full day trip by speedboat offers a reduced time en route (e.g. 75 min from Puno to Taquile versus 2 hrs 30 min aboard the traditional boat). Our tour takes you against the flow to avoid the busy tourist crowds offering a more genuine way to experience Titicaca Lake. The first stop is on Taquile, the weavers' island. Across the centuries, ‘Taquilenos’ have preserved traditions, such as a communitarian life where everything is shared. Men always seem to be walking around the island knitting the woolen caps they wear. Around noon you reach the remote community of Luquina on Chucuito Peninsula. Locals in this less known area are not visited by mass tourism yet. After lunch including typical Andean dishes take time to soak up the mesmerizing views - deep earthy red colour of the soil in the strong highland sunlight contrasts magnificently against the deep blue of Lake Titicaca. The backdrop of the snowcapped Cordillera Real on the far side completes a splendid picture. On your back to Puno there is a last stop to visit one of the floating reed islands of the Uros.
Day 6 - PUNO (B)
Transfer from the hotel in Puno to Juliaca’s airport. En route short visit of the burial towers in Sillustani. The engineering involved in their construction challenge the low of gravity; the diameter at the top is larger than the diameter at the base. Sillustani is partially encircled by Umayo Lake, offering us a beautiful landscape. We then join a local family from Sillustani in their courtyard to learn more about their lifestyle, Andean crops and traditions. 13:20 Departure from Juliaca with Lan LA 2096
